What to Look For

When buying a portable CD player, here are some of the things you must consider to land yourself a great deal. First of all, try to find out whether the CD player is compatible with all kinds of CDs, such as CD-R/-RW. If most of your CD collection consists of rewriteable CDs and if your player doesn’t support them, it would be a bad purchase. So, check this factor before you buy the device.

Secondly, check the sound quality of the CD player. One of the main reasons why some music fanatics still use CDs and CD players is because the quality of audio is incomparable to most modern devices.

Next, try to find out whether the portable CD player you are looking to buy has features such as anti-skip and anti-shock protection. This is essential to ensure you can listen to uninterrupted music. Any distortion or disturbance when listening to music can impact the overall experience.

Then, check for additional features such as skip, repeat, forward, back, random play functions. A lot of these features will be supported only if your player has memory. Also, some portable CD players have FM/AM tuners. If you frequently listen to radio, then do not miss out on checking for this feature. That way, you can listen to music even when you do not have your CDs with you.

See if there is a display on your device. A display will let you know about the mode of operation currently set, the track name, etc. A display always makes the operation easy making your CD a user-friendly device.

Next, check the battery requirements of your player and also find out if it can work on rechargeable batteries. The battery life is also an important deciding factor before buying any portable device.

Lastly, compare the prices between the CD players that you have short-listed. Make sure to analyze the features that are important to you. Pay only for what you get.

I’m looking for a cd player not for music but for audio instruction for a spelling program I’m using for my kids. I therefore don’t necessarily want crisp audio the way someone who is interested in listening to music would would want. I’m most interested in durability and has a durable plug in. I want something somewhat compact but that can be plugged into the wall while they listen to their lesson and write at the same time. Based on my needs, do you have a particular recommendation? So many reviews I’ve read on Amazon say that their cd players are junk after a few months. That’s a bummer. Can you give me any direction on what’s the best cd player based on my needs? Thanks
